No 'iPad' for Apple in China

Apple, in a lawsuit field in China to protect the 'iPad' name in that country, hit a roadblock as that was rejected by the local courts.

The Municipal Intermediate People's Court in the town of Shenzhen rejected Apple's claim because Proview Technology, the company accused by Apple of infringing on the iPad trademark, legally registered the name for use in mainland China back in 2001 (and in Taiwan in 2000). Although Apple bought the rights to use the iPad name in Taiwan in 2009, Proview still retains the right to the name in mainland China, Xinhua said.

This came as a major setback for Apple as, since opening its first store in China in 2008, its Shanghai and Beijing stores generate the highest average revenue of any store in its chain. And as we all remember -the debut of the iPad 2 in Beijing was so popular that nearly 1,000 people lined up to buy the same even before the store opened, and things became so frenzied that fights even broke out.

As Apple CEO Tim Cook remarked, "China, the sky's the limit there."

We are really waiting to see what Apple's next move is?
